Art in Paris / Les Paris de l’art: The Paris Musées art history lectures
Art lovers and aficionados, if you understand French, these classes are for you!
With titles such as “Paris de la Préhistoire à l’Antiquité / Paris from Prehistory to Antiquity”, Paris du Moyen-Âge à la Renaissance / Paris from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance", " Paris au XVIIIe siècle / Paris in the 18th century”, “Paris et ‘la Belle Époque’ ou ‘le Fauvisme’" / Paris and the ‘Belle Époque’ or ‘Le Fauvisme’, the Paris de l’art lectures (in French) are an opportunity to rediscover the key periods and concepts of art history by reviewing the cultural and artistic history of Paris through its museums.
A regular rendez-vous
From December 2018 to June 2019, Paris Musées presents a series of 17 thematic sessions (in French) on the history of art in Paris, from prehistory to the present day.
The lectures will take place in the auditorium of the Petit Palais, 2 sessions a week, on Thursdays from 3pm to 4.30pm and on Fridays from 6.30pm to 8pm.
Lectures by art professionals
The Paris de l'art lectures will be given (in French) by curators and art historians. They will be based on the collections of the 14 museums of the City of Paris.
Each session will review (in French) a specific period of Paris's artistic history (17th, 18th & 19th century, the Belle Époque, the Decorative Arts, Fauvism, contemporary art, etc.) and will also focus on more general concepts such as "La notion de chef d'oeuvre / What is meant by a masterpiece?"; "Comment décrypter une œuvre / How to decode a work of art"; and "Les maisons d' écrivains / Writers' houses"
