Félix Ziem (1821-1911). Saisir la lumière

Painter of the Orient, Félix Ziem (1821–1911) was a nomadic artist, eccentric and unclassifiable. This traveler, friend to the Barbizon painters, and an admirer of Lorrain and Turner, occupies a unique place in nineteenth century art. Ziem attracted a varied clientele, who loved to dream of Venice or Constantinople before the luminous landscapes that have made him famous. The exhibition includes some hundred works from the Ziem donation (56 paintings, a selection of watercolors, drawings, and travel diaries), gifted to the museum in 1905.
