Antiquity into Future. Bourdelle and his Sculptures

The exhibition is an adaptation of Bourdelle et l’antique. Une passion moderne, presented in Paris from 4 October 2017 to 4 February 2018.

This is the first comprehensive retrospective of the French sculptor Antoine Bourdelle (1861–1929) organized in China. A student of Rodin, he became the master of a generation of international artists who came to Paris at a time when the city was the center of the artistic world. Presenting an outstanding selection of forty bronzes, alongside a number of drawings and photographs, this exhibition gives an overview of Bourdelle’s art. A wealth of archival material and digital educational tools enable the visitors to plunge themselves into the world of Bourdelle and discover the art of a sculptor who reinterpreted lessons learnt from antiquity, while effecting a resolutely modern synthesis.
