The Power of My Hands

The Musée d’Art Moderne presents The Power of My Hands, an exhibition featuring a selection of works by a dozen women from several countries on the African continent and in the diaspora.

In Africa, as in other parts of the world, the activities assigned to women provide unique opportunities for creativity and negotiation. The women artists who take them up strive to interpret their relationship to private space as well as the public arena. They tend to create a territory beyond the silence and invisibility that have prevailed for so long. The works selected (paintings, photographs, sculptures, and videos) reflect this intermingling of memory, family, tradition, religion and imagination.

Part of Season Africa 2020.
