In 1896, financier Henri Cernuschi bequeathed his private mansion near the edge of Monceau Park to the City of Paris, along with his collection of art from the Far East, acquired during his world travels. The museum was completely renovated in 2005, it holds a remarkable collection of ancient Chinese art. The collection is regularly enhanced with acquisitions and gifts: Neolithic pottery, archaic bronzes, funeral statues as well as a very beautiful collection of classic and modern Chinese paintings from the 20th century.
